The action of delaying or postponing something is referred to as procastination and it means to put off intentionally and habitually the doing of something that should be done.
Why do we tend to procastinate, you may ask...
According to research, there are a few reasons we do it as follows: * Perfectionism * Fear of failure * Fear of criticism * Avoidance * Low self-esteem * A tendency to self-defeat * Depression * Trouble focusing
Surely, not an exciting list, but surely these can be overcome. Therefore if we are aware of the reasons, we can work on them.
Below I share quick tips from established researchers to plant a seed in your life and allow you to accomplish what you were born to do...
1. Know who you are in Christ. know your identity and the power you carry. Change how you describe yourself and describe yourself how God describes you (Philippians 4:13 & Psalm 139)
2. Be brutally honest about your priorities
3. Stop feeling guilty. You will fail and that's part of the journey. When you fall, you may even lie down, but then get up and try again.
4. Build systems to accomplish goals. There are tools and resources and apps to help you, find something that is easy, yet effective...or find someone to help you keep track.
5. Reward yourself for your work and celebrate your achievements, even small ones. Throw a party of 1 to toast your success and document it for future reference.
6. Feel that power of accomplishment!!!!! Tell yourself how proud you are of yourself. I have seen folks print certificates and sign it for themselves and hand it to yourself at your party at number 5 above...why not?..
Do share your success stories of overcoming your fears on any platform,it always encourages others including me...
